Namaste! I’m Sharanya Menon and I’m 12 years old and I study at The Shri Ram School Moulsari, Gurgaon, Haryana. Welcome to My Avishkar Talk! I’m new to Avishkar and I love this platform of so many different competitions that support ideation and innovation and curiosity. I got introduced to it through my school and the platform answered my doubts and I love how middle- schoolers like me are becoming influencers.

I wanted to talk about my initiative! My innovation that I’ve worked on for the past months- Project Equal which looks forward to a safer environment where everyone has a voice. I worked with my school robotics teacher- Mansi ma’am to get a better perspective. A professional perspective -who helped ideate and convey my idea with her knowledge and past experience.

I want to make Project Equal a tool for the government for statistics, database, and safer environments. We have come up with a device that will be used to record complaints by people who have been mistreated in any way. This is mainly targeted to the rural areas where many inequalities happen and are ignored because of lack of education and help- support.

With the funds and the support, I was planning on putting one device in every government school and a common place in a village. This device can be used to monitor bullying in schools as well as taking complaints of harassments and legal issues. These complaints will be recorded on a portal which can be accessed with proper identification. Only lawyers, counsellors and psychologists will have access to this portal. We can have a legal panel that works on harassment cases to professionally reach out and advise the victims. For this to come alive, the people of the villages should be kept informed on how and where they need to file their complaint.

Further developing the idea, I wanted there to be a stage that we can add later- which is that complains should be monitored and have proof and witnesses so we can filter out false complaints, before we bring in the professional panel. This tool could be updated and grown into something even more complex like having a camera and also having a microphone. So, if a person isn’t comfortable or accustomed to writing and typing on a platform they can record their voice. To guide them, the portal can have a speaker that will speak in the preferred language for those who don’t know how to read.

I really do want this idea to come alive where everyone feels like they do have a voice and can speak up and stand up- come forward to lodge their complain. I think it’s a great way to bring justice to developing places through technology. I pitched this idea for Inspire MANAK award- a science and technology award by the government of India. and my idea was chosen and funded. Hopefully, with responds like this- the device could slowly start growing. Avishkar’s support would be a great way to move forward. Thank You!
